The Lisa Walker 'YOLO' Scholarship
Life is short. You only live once (YOLO), or in some cases you live twice. Lisa Walker, whom this scholarship honors, was a double lung transplant recipient who, by medical definition, died and started over. Her YOLO attitude inspired everyone around her. Lisa believed strongly in paying it forward. With her passing in January 2016, and her commitment to being and organ and tissue donor, 80 people received the transplants they desperately needed that only a donor like Lisa can provide. She impacted over 80 people in a life-altering way in a single day. The only word that seems to fit is "heroic". May her legacy of love, optimism, and paying it forward live on through her story in eternity. We will always love you Lisa.
To apply for this $500 scholarship, tell us about a time when you looked life in the eye and said “Let’s do this”. You could tell us about a time you embraced the life-is-short mentality and stepped outside of your comfort zone to live a more rewarding life. We are looking for those “dance like nobody's watching” or “that one time I booked a trip to Africa on impulse” stories.
In addition, please tell us what inspired you to enroll in the Medical Device Engineering Program.
Most forms of entry are accepted. Write us an essay, post a video, send pictures, organize a flash mob. Get creative and have fun! Good luck! Entries are due by April 15th.
